Mechelen is one of those cities that surprises you. It's walkable, friendly, and has a proper local scene that most people don't know about yet.

The house's location is hard to beat. You're a 5-minute walk from Mechelen train station, which makes commuting or travelling around Belgium really easy. Antwerp is only 13' away, Brussels 15'. The city center is only 6 minutes by bike, so shops, cafés, restaurants and everything else are always close by. Just a 2-minute walk from the house, you have Bar Lief, It's a cozy spot with great specialty coffee, fresh salads, and a relaxed vibe, perfect for working remotely or a weekend brunch.

At some point you'll be craving real Belgian fries, it's inevitable. Frituur Veemarkt is one of the most loved frituren in the city and it is also just a 4 min walk from the house.

If you are more a nights out, drinks & city cafés' person, you also have some good options in the city center. Bar Bazil on the Grote Markt is one of the best spots in town right now, great cocktails and a friendly staff. If you're more into wine and something to eat, Bodega 17 is a must. Think tapas, an extensive Spanish wine list, and the kind of place where you go for one drink and end up staying for dinner. And when summer hits, there's only one place to be: Bar Fleur. A beautiful terrace, Belgian beers, and good energy.
